TWD—Unbelievably Good Chocolate Blueberry Ice Cream

TWD Chocolate Blueberry Ice Cream

Tuesdays With Dorie—Unbelievably Good Chocolate Blueberry Ice Cream

Simply made with a custard-style chocolate ice cream and blueberry preserves stirred in at the end.  I made my own blueberry preserves since I didn’t have any store bought preserves.

I used--

1 pint of frozen blueberries

1/4 cup granulated sugar

a splash of lime juice

a pinch of salt

Cooked in a saucepan over medium heat until it thickens.  Stir often.  Remove from heat.  Let cool.  Blend in a blender or food processor for a minute or so.  Strain over a fine mesh strainer (optional).

This made a heaping 1/3 cup of blueberry goodness.

I didn’t quite add all of it to the ice cream, though I should have.

That picture at the top is the ice cream freshly churned and still soft (that’s the way I like it).  I tasted a tablespoon or two of the ice cream.  It IS unbelievably good.

TWD 12-12-11

Here’s the ice cream after its half day stint in the freezer.

Laurie (our fearless TWD leader) has the recipe on her blog, Slush.  Next week, because of Christmas, we can do a rewind recipe if we’d like.  And then if you can believe it, the week after that we’ll be making/posting the last recipe in the book.  sigh

The other recipe chosen for this week is a Puffed Plum Tart and Jules Someone will have the recipe on her blog, Someone's in the Kitchen.  No plums around here.

Hey, while you’re here, if you haven’t, enter the giveaway I’m having here--Wayfair Review and Giveaway for a Cuisinart Handheld Immersion Blender.  Entries are good until 5 p.m. tonight when one winner will be randomly selected.  Thanks to Wayfair (formerly CSN Stores).

Oooh, that looks amazing, Katrina! Would've loved to try this one... I just haven't been in an 'ice cream' mood lately. :)

Okay, who doesn't love a woman who makes her own preserves? I swear, you always put everything over the top each week. This ice cream looks very pretty with all its little variations swirly through it. Guess I better get my ingredients together and give it a try. Very nice. Happy to see I wasn't the only one who did not get photo/book/contribution sent in during the allotted time...lol.

Wow, mine didn't look so blue! Great idea to make your own preserves; I've got blueberries in the freezer but I bought jam anyway.

I didn't get a chance to make either recipe this week, and to be honest, I was skeptical about blueberries and chocolate ice cream, but this seems to be getting rave reviews. I need to try it soon!!
