TWD--World Peace Cookies

Yeah for cookies!  Today's Tuesday's With Dorie recipe was chosen by Jessica at cookbookhabit.  Great choice.  I've seen these cookies all over blogland and was glad to finally give them a try.  They are very chocolaty, have a nice sand and sable-ness, and I loved the little hint of salt Dorie said would be present in the cookies from using a sea salt.  They are like a super chocolaty, buttery shortbread.    I kept thinking when I saw photos of them and other's ranting about how good they are that they don't LOOK like they are "all that".  And while I'm not sure I'd say they would promote world peace because they are THAT good, I do think they are REALLY good. 

I'm a big chicken though.  I thought I'd go all out and finally try this---

Three and a half ounces of dark chocolate with chili pepper in it.  I took a little taste of the chocolate and while it really wasn't HOT, hot, I was too scared to use the whole thing as part of the five ounces of chocolate in these World Peace Cookies.  So much of a chicken that I only used ONE ounce and used 4 ounces of Hershey's Special Dark for the rest.  Well, now that I know the cookies are good, I wish I would have put the whole 3.5 ounces in because you can't even tell it's there.  Next time.   I must have made mine pretty small as I got 36 cookies when Dorie mentions only two dozen.  I stuck a bunch in the freezer.

Hey Rita!  I finally made ganache (hello, SO easy!) for the first time for something and had a little leftover and made a few delicious truffles!   I knew you'd be proud!  ; )

The chocolate with chili does sound interesting. I need to get some special chocolates, too. Nice job with the World Peace cookies!

I have the Lindt "Hot Cassis" bar - chocolate with Cassis and Chili. It does have a hot kick, but it's kind of jelly-like in the middle so I don't think it would work in cookies. Guess I have to just eat it plain! I'm impressed that you got 36 cookies - yummy little bits of goodness.

Yum! Your cookies look delicious! I am a chicken too and wouldn't have even tried the chili chocolate....although now that you have tried it.....maybe I will have to as well!

These look just like Korova Cookies, another Dorrie Greenspan recipe, also billed as "the best cookie in the world." I made them once and they were very good, but not through the roof fantastic. They included sea salt....I'll bet it is the same recipe.

Oooo... that chocolate bar looks good. I love chocolate with a hint of spiciness and actually think the next time I make the wpc that I will add a pinch of cinnamon and a pinch of cayenne, just to give them a kick. (I really liked them the normal way, too)

How wow! Of course I'm proud lol! I think people get scared of the name Ganache, ahahah! Very nice truffles and cookies! I have not tried these cookies yet, shame on me, I know!

I generally like chili chocolate but the Lindt one was actually a bit sweet for me, I like it reeeeaaal dark. The whole spicy dark chocolate thing is neat but doesn't compare to a good plain dark chocolate in my mind. Although in cookies I could see it going really well!

My older son would have loved the cookies with that chili chocolate -- but none of the rest of us would have. Use more next time, and let us know how it is!

Great blog Katrina. The Chili Chocolate sounds interesting. I am sure I would love it, I haven't found a chocolate I haven't eaten.

Gnache is very easy, I put it over sugar cookies and sprinkled broken candy canes for Christmas, sooo good. Truffles are a good idea too.

Your WP cookies look wonderful. I loved them. I've been thinking of using some of those flavored chocolates in baking, especially "Sexy" from vosages. It's chocolate with ginger.

mmm, good idea to use flavored chocolate! i probably wouldn't have gone for chile (too much of a chicken), but good to know it works well in the cookie :)s

i have this chocolate at home and did consider putting it in these cookies, i chose not to.... that makes me a bigger chicken! i like that chocolate though, it's aftertaste really sneaks up on you.
