I know what you’re thinking—that doesn’t look like Irish Soda Bread. What? You’ve never seen Irish Soda Bread with chocolate and toffee? Well, this IS me here. ;) The thing about this was that I just knew “plain” Irish Soda Bread would not have been eaten here. I didn’t make an Irish meal or anything to have it with, but decided Sunday afternoon to go ahead and make it so I wasn’t skipping out on TWD this go-around.
That said, I decided to make half a recipe and throw in a few things that would make this sure to get eaten here. Naturally, that was chocolate! So instead of the sometimes normal addition of raisins or currants in Irish Soda Bread—I added some chopped milk chocolate and toffee bits. The boys enjoyed this for their snack Sunday evening—what made it even better—smearing some Nutella on a slice of the bread!
What do you eat/serve Irish Soda Bread with?
Cathy at My Culinary Mission and Carla at Chocolate Moosey are the hosts for the recipe this week. You’ll find it posted on their blogs. Are you Baking With Julia yet? It’s a wonderful book!

Oh my! LOL "this IS me here" haha. This is def a new take on soda bread! I'm pretty sure you just can't go wrong with toffee and chocolate, unless maybe you put it on your steak. Then we might have a problem.
Deliciuous!!! In my house if I don't put chocolate chips or nutella they look at me like I'm an alien... :D
I don't think I have ever had irish soda bread, but if it had chocolate I would so eat it.
Leave it to you to find a way to enhance a recipe with chocolate! I've actually never had Irish Soda bread, but know I would love your version. And of course, subbing Nutella for butter (in my case Justin's) can only make it all better!
I love Irish Soda Bread. It is so easy and delicious. Yours looks fabulous!!
Ooh...chocolate! (and I did run out to target and buy the white chocolate m&ms. :) )
I love me some Irish Soda Bread!
This looks like some Irish Soda bread! Anything with toffee and chocolate is good in my book.
I love this version of Irish soda bread and you may not be as far off as you think. I was just looking through a cookbook written by Darina Allen, who has been described as the Irish Julia Child, and she had a recipe for soda bread with raisins and chunks of chocolate that she called Witches Bread that she suggested you make for Halloween :-)
I made a loaf and found it perfect for an indulgent breakfast.
I can imagine how quickly that disappeared! I'm enjoying seeing everyone's variations of this recipe.
Chocolate and toffee? You are a crazy baker. LOL I bet it was magically delicious!!! ;)
Oh my gosh, that looks like the perfect snack! The plain version was good with dinner, but yours looks much more exciting.
I like it toasted -- plain, with butter, or with butter and jam. Or with a slice of cheese.
LOL oh I love coming to your blog! At first I just saw Irish Soda Bread. I thought you put ham and onions, yum! Then I saw you used chocolate and toffee, mmmmm. I think I'll try both!
Leave it to you to make Irish soda bread into a dessert. I've made a savory herbed version before but this looks even better.
It's fun to see what everyone's personal tastes led them to add this week. Very nice!
Love that you added milk chocolate and toffee bits to your bread! Sounds really tasty and unique. I'll bet it's exceptional when it's toasted too. YUM!!!
