Look what just rolled in 11 a.m., Saturday, June 19, 2010, just for us before we leave Kansas.
Out the back deck.
Out the front door.
This storm came in, we knew it was coming, but that was the darkest I’ve ever seen a storm rollin’ through here. Funny thing is it hasn’t done much, it’s blowing through here pretty quickly. It’s fun to watch, but always at the same time in the back of our minds, we’re ready to run and hide downstairs if we need to. It doesn’t “scare” me like it did when we first moved here 5 years ago. It’s just barely drizzling outside as the clouds leave. We have really been blessed here in Lawrence as through the years we’ve seen/heard of lots of flooding, damage and tornadoes all around us, but we’ve always been spared of anything major happening.
Oop, here comes the heavy rain. It will still probably only last a very short time. Hope so, we’re having a hot dog roast at the park with all our friends this afternoon as a final goodbye. Sigh. Goodbyes. I don’t want to talk about it.
I have lots to blog about, but this is it for now. Busy, busy day—did lots of packing this morning, now we need to get ready for this afternoon.
Ooh, big boomin’ thunder! Kids running to me. Here comes another. Let’s see if I can get this posted.

Goodbye, to Kansas, Dorothy...fitting that you are leaving in a storm and will find a yellow brick road at the other end...happy landing!
Wish we could come say goodbye, but in some ways I'm glad I'm not there, I don't want to do it again. I guess the next time we see you will be next summer. We are planning to come for a month.
Oh my gosh! I love thunderstorms, but even that site is a little scary..cool, but scary. I hope it cleared up enough for the hot dog roast. Goodbyes are never fun but you should at least get to have them!
The storm passed through Topeka really quickly and didn't do much here either. Just some really strong wind. Good luck in your move!
I remember when we were in Texas we got so used to tornado warnings that they were no big deal to me anymore. The in-laws came the first Thanksgiving we were there. We were watching the news one afternoon and they had severe weather and tornado warnings flashing all over the screen. My mother-in-law got really nervous and I remember saying: Oh, yea, we get those all the time. We can all get in the bathroom if you want.
It just wasn't a big deal to me anymore.
That's quite the nasty sky! But a beauty at the same time!
Scary looking storms. enjoy the hot dog roast!
wow...those are some huge clouds....Most storms do not scare me.. but I think I would be a bit tense if I were there... :)
I'd be hollering for Auntie Em and Uncle Henry - glad everyone was safe - and good luck with the journey!!!
Holy cow - this looks NUTS!
Cool looking storm...from here. I hope your move went well! I haven't been able to blog or keep up on much blog reading the last couple of months, but wanted to take a few minutes to do it today. Let me know when you're here and have internet!!!
Nice pictures...like kids I do not like thunderstorms...they sure look very scary.
Good luck in Utah!
Nothing like a big storm to see you off! Happy Trails
Mimi
Wow, that's an amazing, scary looking sky. Your blog is very nice... yum!
Oh no - you left Lawrence! :( I miss it so much - have not been home in a long time. I still get scared in storms, even after growing up with so many of them!
