Somebody's Stealing the Cinnamon Rolls!

Look what we found in our cinnmon rolls!

This cute little turtle.   The little sneak was trying to eat our cinnamon rolls!

So, really.  Every Monday night we have Family Night and we take turns with who (kids, Kevin and I and our friends, Bob and Tes) has treats for the night.  This past Monday, it was Taylor's turn for the treats and Sunday night as I tucked him in bed I asked him what he wanted to have or make for the treats for Family Night and out of no where he said, "Turtle Bread."  Does anyone else know what turtle bread is?  Well, I didn't either.  But he reminded me that in the Gold Medal ABC Baking Cookbook for kids that we borrowed from his preschool teacher not too long ago it said Turtle Bread for the letter T.  Creative juices flowing--I made a turtle out of bread!  We think he turned out pretty great.  He is made from the same roll mix we made the cinnamon rolls with.  I got this bread mix from Food Storage Depot, which is an online food storage company where you can get all kinds of things for---your home food storage.  They kindly sent me a couple of bread roll mixes because I linked their website on my blog.  The mix is LOVELY.  You just add some yeast and water to your mixer and let it knead together with the dough hook for a few minutes, cover the dough and let it rise, form whatever shape you want (cinnamon rolls here!).  Let them rise again, then bake.  The dough was a bit sticky after its short stint in the mixer but the nice thing is, you don't even really have to touch it. It rose up beautifully and was no longer too sticky to work with.   The cinnamon rolls were great!

Even the turtle thought so!

Cute, isn't he!  Taylor and I formed him (quite simple) and he went to town "painting" him with some food coloring and milk.  We used Q-tips to paint him.  With a sweet face like that, would you be able to eat it?

Taylor didn't want to and for a day he wouldn't even let anyone really touch it.  He actually wanted to keep it.  I explained to him and convinced him that the turtle would eventually get moldy and he wouldn't be able to stay.  Each of the boys tasted him.  Quite the carbolicious little guy!

I can see some fun bread dough animal shaping coming up!  Check out Food Storage Depot's website.

  5. That looks yummy. Unfortunately the turtle is causing me angst. I ran over a cute little turtle the other day and can't seem to get the way his little legs were scurrying to get out of my way the second before the splat.

But, it is an adorable turtle.

  12. That is adorable!! What a great idea Taylor had

You CAN keep him forever if you want to, he won't go moly if you dry him out completely (a few days) and then spray him with with sealer. See this! http://www.familycorner.com/homegarden/crafts/2.shtml
